Telescopic piston recaro seat loose

The short stubby piston about 5" long, compresed, located under the drivers seat, to actuate the raise & lower feature, fell to the floor 2 weeks ago; with the seat in the raised position. Due to the adverse weather conditions, I have been unable to have this re fitted. Now that I have lowered the drivers seat to the lower position, it feels much more stable.
Would it be safe to drive the car with the piston removed, keeping the seat in the lower position...????? I need to do a 150 mile round trip, so I urgently need the car on Sunday.

Perf4ectly safe, I would have thought - the piston is only to give assistance to raise the seat. When the seat is down - where I always have it, its doing nothing....
