Well Happy Winter tyres on my 147 - woohoooooo!

Bit the bullet yesterday an got some Vredestein Snowtrac 3 fitted all round on my 147.

Now when I put my foot down the car accelerates too rather than traction control cutting in. Even where the roads are just wet, but cold, there is noticeably more grip, especially around roundabouts.

Driving along the road the overall sensation is of a much softer ride. Obvious, really, as the rubber is a softer compound. Just goes to show how hard the summer tyre compound actually gets when the temperature gets cold. I haven't noticed that they are noisier, though. The tyres have a pretty aggressive looking profile too.

Only snag was the 80 quid per corner. Still, if it avoids one prang it was worth it.

Steel wheels + winter tyres for winter

Alloy wheels + summer tyres for summer

Don't know what you're going to do in spring and autumn though

I now have some still fairly new 195/60/15 summer tyres. I'd have liked to have got some 16 inch alloys and tyres as the 15s are a bit small, but to not waste the 15 inch tyres, I shall probably get some 15 inch alloys off fleabay.

For spring and autumn, I shall get some 4-season tyres and another set of alloys to cater for those months that are not winter, nor summer.

and whilst your summer wheels are off it gives you a good opportunity to wax and seal them.

You should notice a vast improvement in car control on hard packed snow etc, instead of the car just sliding all over the place it will actually go where you point it and will stop when you apply the brakes

Just got a pair of Cooper weathermaster snow tyres fitted for 105 total. Seems a lot more grip on the snow so far. I bought a set of whhels and tyres off ebay a while ago to replace a buckled wheel so just have to swap the wheels twice a year.

got them on mrs Ps 147, not through choice, they were on some nice OZ alloys I bagged on ebay and they beed wearing out before going onto the 75, very useful in this weather.

Makes does not make mrs p more confident in the snow, but I feel better knowing what a difference they make. I am thinking a set would be useful for one of the cars in subsequent years.

I like my Falken FK452s, with the VDS they grip, with the handbrake they slide - Fun all they way

We had 4 inches of new snow last night and the level of confidence is astonishing. As Pascs said, the car will go where you want it to. When someone is crawling along at 20mph...past I go at 30!
