I'm going to arrange a test drive on Monday. How do the 2.0 and diesel compare?
The diesel is the better car compared to the 2.0 petrol, pretty much all round, except for the engine note. But the 2.0 JTS engine note is nothing to write home about anyway, in fact I'd say its probably the worst sounding petrol engine Alfa have made in years. Thats not to say its bad, just there is nothing special about it. Its still better than the gruff diesel note.
I've driven all 3 engine types in the GT and the V6 is the only car that felt special when driven. The JTS was a let down and the JTD felt very quick, refined, but just a powerplant, not the beating heart/soul of the car.
I haven't really considered the V6 because I read that they have handling issues - is this true?
You can get a Q2 lsd fitted to the V6 (and the JTD for that matter) for £600 supplied & fitted, at that point the V6's handling surpasses the 2.0 petrol on standard suspension and without an lsd. The V6 has uprated anti-roll bars which really keeps the body roll down.
Also, the standard diffs on the V6 are weak - they have a tendency to go pop and throw shrapnel through the gearbox casing. If you were to go for the V6, budget £600 for a Q2 diff immediatly as a precaution if anything - they are much, much stronger and I haven't heard of a single one fail yet, even in V6s with 400+ bhp. There are countless failures of the standard diffs reported on here.
