As some of you might know from my previous threads begging for your advice I'm looking at buying a used 147 (JTDm).
I've found one that seems to be a decent car at a very good price. Beautifully presented and full service history. To be honest, I'm quite taken with it, I'm sure you all know the feeling
There's just one issue which is that when I went to take a look at it yesterday the garage had jump-started it because the battery was too drained to start it.
They say this is normal and it's just been drained while sitting on the forecourt for weeks; I don't know the exact time period but it's been at least a month.
Does that ring true or should I be concerned? I'm worried about the battery's condition, whether there's some electrical problem that's causing it to drain and finally whether being this drained could now have done damage to the battery even if it had previously been fine.
The battery still didn't have enough juice to start the engine after a brief test drive but it was very brief, up the road and back, certainly under 10 minutes.
I'm struggling to weigh up my options. In all other respects it's a very nice car at the price and the garage doesn't seem keen to do any jobs on the car or negotiate on price at all.
Should I ask for a new battery?
Should I let my head rule my heart and walk away? That would be difficult, my heart's definitely got the upper hand right now, it's a gorgeous car!
The difficulty is that it's near the top of my price range which doesn't leave me much in hand to spend on tracking down/fixing any problems that do crop up any time soon and I know electrical faults could end up being a bugger to track down!
Thanks in advance for any useful advice, I really need your help!
