What's your maintenance budget? Expect to have silly things go wrong, particularly at that age, so if you are on a tight budget think carefully about it.
I took the plunge 3 years ago, but I like to think I had my eyes open - not least from reading posts on here!
You're looking to buy a car similar age as my 2lt TS and with a similar mileage as mine had when I bought it.
Ultimately, I have no regrets about buying my Bella, but it has cost me. Simple things like door handles breaking can be easy enough to replace but are frustrating. More expensive/inconvenient problems like the blocked catalytic convertor, the ridiculously short service interval for timing belt changes and the shockingly harsh suspension make more of an impact.
Ultimately, I love my 147. I've recently been given a Company A3 to drive for the daily commute and while it is quite comfortable there are just as many irritating things about it (design wise and build quality wise) and the clear down side is that I don't get even the slightest buzz from driving it. By contrast, the 147 makes me grin like an idiot and handles brilliantly.
If you do your research well and know what kind of things to expect then go for it. I can certainly say that I knew very little about cars beforehand and I've learned a lot in the last 3 years. I've also spent a lot of money on parts and servicing!
60% of the time it works everytime.
