156 v6 MAF SUPRISE (PLEASE READ)

Hi there,

I recently found some interesting info on MAF sensors for the v6, and thought i'd delve deeper as i'm a tight ****.
After posting the question about other vehicles using the same sensor, alot of people told me it was'nt the case, especially some specialists. But after talking to speedmaster on here, and running his list of part numbers though my local parts supplier, i bought a MAF sensor for a vauxhal for 58. Then took the sensor out and checked the sensor number, (not the maf tube number) and as i was told, it was exactly the same as the original part number taken from my v6. So even though the vauxhal MAF tube was significantly smaller than the v6's the sensors were exactly the same but a fraction of the cost of a so called v6 maf assembly which i've seen for 185.
Since fitting it 2 weeks ago i can report no issues at all. The fuel consumption is better and the car still goes like stink, i did do a ecu and throttle reset at the time just to make sure it was all starting with fresh settings. And the main prob of cutting out has disappeared.

So if anyone needs a new MAF for a v6 i would recommend ordering part number 0 281 002 180 as this was the cheapest from the list that speedmaster supplied me.

So thanks very much for speedmasters help and hope this helps other V6 owners

cheers

There's a good bit of research on MAF's and a list on the "other" 156 forum ...

Quote:
Recently in our Bulgarian Alfa forum was posted info about HFM (Hot Film Air Mass Meter) sensor, used for Bosch MAF's.
It seems that Bosch used the very same sensor F00C2G2030 for all of thiese MAF's(please make difference between the sensor, and entire MAF):
Bosch 0 280 217 531
Bosch 0 280 218 001
Bosch 0 280 218 004
Bosch 0 280 218 019
Bosch 0 280 218 045
Bosch 0 280 218 108
Bosch 0 281 002 182
Bosch 0 281 002 199
Bosch 0 281 002 207
Bosch 0 281 002 208
Bosch 0 281 002 308
Bosch 0 281 002 309
In all above MAFs is build (HFM) F00C2G2030.....
So its possible for someone who drives 156 1.9 JTD ‘02, and normaly must use Bosch 0 281 002 309, at cost 310 EU (BG price), to use MAF for 166 2.4 JTD ‘99 - Bosch 0 280 218 019 at cost 65 EU - and must change only the sensor, if MAF main body differs from each other.......
Few of our Bosch dealers checked this info, and it seems OK.....

Visiting one Bosch service recently, i was curious how the Maf's market performs, and ask for price for V6's maf 0 280 217 531 - dealer said 320EU. Then i ask for 0 280 218 019 maf, used in most TS's, and using same F00C2G2030 sensor - 68EU. O, yeah.....very expensive plastic.

Speedmaster, I understand that you provided Richard with the list of alternative part numbers and he recommends ordering 0 281 002 180. I cant find that number in Gazza's list though I've ordered it but not yet paid. Couple of questions
1. Is that part number correct
2. Does this have to be a Bosch part? I guess an alternative would be out of the question. Thoughts please.

Looks like either way I'll be saving some money and in a fair way too. So Thanks!!

What a fantastic find - especially as mine went today! Bravo that man.

One question though, does the procedure involve replacement of the guts of the 156 MAF, while retaining the original housing, or does the whole unit swap out? Sounds a lot better than the 255 I was quoted earlier... (V6 by the way)

Keep the original tube, remove MAF unit (need security torx bits) and swap them over. Re-fit original tube with replacement MAF.

Er, pass? I don't think it's got 4 cats, it's only a 2001 2.5, not a GTA or anything too special! I saw OP's car was a similar age to mine and thought they'd be the same - am I mistaken?

Thanks for the heads up tho.

Re: 156 v6 MAF SUPRISE (PLEASE READ)

Before buying a different MAF check which one you need as I thought the MAF's differed for V6's between the CF1, CF2 and CF3 engines ?

The info from speedmaster is correct.

Bosch use tha same sensors for various cars/manufacturers. Don't change the whole unit, just take out the sensor (as Rob3rto said). The part number for all 156 is F00C2G2xxx. Check yours and buy the same.
In case you can't find it you can buy some other parts with the whole tube for other manufacturers (vauxhal), but use only the sensor unit, not the rest.

//F00C2G2030 and F00C2G2044 used in the TS models are the same Lada is using for their 110 model (2110).

I don't Dave no. If no one else knows it, I will endeavor to take the maf out and have a look asap. Any one with an old CF1 maf kicking about they can look for the number?

Mitch - I should have a CF1 MAF lying around. Its the 4-pin one instead of the normal 5 pin. Give me a bell tomorrow when I'm at work 01525 221 921 and I'll dig it out and post up the sensor number, but I think it will be totally different to what is found in modern vehicles..
