GT Oil Consumption

I have a 58 plate 2.0litre Lusso GT bought new on 4 September 2008.

The car now has 32k miles on it and i have noticed even from new that it drinks oil as if it going out of fashion, i have to top it up every 6 weeks.

As of this week 17 December 2009, iam going to pay closer attention to the number of top ups and miles covered and then report what is happening to my dealer at the next service.

Has any one else experienced heavy oil consumption.

Other than this issue the car has been trouble free and a joy to drive.

It depends 'how' you drive it but it's supposed to be 'normal' consumption up to 1 liter per 1000miles.

alfa petrols drink anything liquid based, especially the twinnys. but your JTS is also a renowned oil drinker, being basically a twinny with a different head. make it a mission to check it at least fortnightly. could end up being expensive otherwise

My 156 2.0 JTS use to drink a lot of oil - about a litre/2500 km over its lifetime.
The new one, the GT 2.0 has only used 1 litre in the first 11.000 km.

Using same oil (SAE 10 W 60 as per the user manual, in both) and my driving's not changed that I'm aware of... The GT appears to use more fuel though than the 156 used to.

Go figure - it's most likely down to Italian tolerances.

Check it every fill up or every week, our now quite old (2005) 147 drinks a splash every 500 miles or so, about 6mm on the dipstick.

I've just finished a 5 litre bottle of Selenia Racing 10w-60 - over 2 years and around 15000 miles - so mine uses a litre every 3000 miles or so. But I top it up a little almost every time I check it (every fortnight at the least) as it always seems to be to the lower end of the dipstick. Prior to using the Selenia stuff mine was running on thinner oil and it used a lot more.
