Losing Coolant

I have a 156 JTD which on saturday started to run very hot and the heating went off. Guessed it was the coolant, which i topped up as it was empty and was fine. This morning on way into work about 10 miles after start up heating went to cold and the temp on gauge went up, it has never reached the warning light.

Got to work checked the coolant which was gone again. Topped up went a few miles same again, have found that it appears to be leaking from the "****" end of the engine, furthest part of the engine bay roughly central to right hand side. It seems to be a constant leak even when parked up.

I havent been able to get under yet will do that in the morning, any suggestions what it could be?? Are there any pipes underthere that could be leaking?

I did also notice that when i turned left the temperature went down?

What would be the sysmptoms of a heating matrix gone? would the car still run if the head was gone?

Dunno about the 1.9 but on my 2.4 20V there's a screw-in sensor in one of the heater hoses in about that position that got left loose after alfa had been "playing" with it. That caused coolant loss for me til i found it!

It's kind of under and behind the EGR valve area, near the diesel filter.

'course it might not be that at all but worth a look!
