Hi all, this is my first post so I'd like to start by saying that the AO forum and ALL people in it ROCK!
I recently bought a 1999 156 TS 1.8, great all in all, but with few faults - MAF and stat being two of them.
At first the car was very jumpy and felt "clogged" when starting off. After fixing the air filter box, I soon realised the MAF needed changed. I bought one second hand (the guy said it was checked as working...not BOSCH though) and replaced it today. Wow, what a change. When lifting the clutch, the car grips and lifts off quite nicely/straight away, without any "hiccups".
Problem is now, when I press the clutch while running, the revs plunge almost to 0, then the car revs itself up to <2K, and keeps doing this up and down until I completely stop. Not good!
Before I blame the MAF being an improvement but still faulty, do you think a throttle reset procedure is a must after a MAF change? Also, I'll look into cleaning the throttle, I have no clue yet.
One more explaination I can give myself is that now, with a fully working MAF, an existing fault which was before masked by the faulty MAF has been revealed...
Any pointers/comments are welcome.
Keep doing what you're doing... being Alfisti that is!!! Thanks, Luca.
