2000 (W) 156 Selespeed Issue
Sorry if this as been answered in another post and I'm too blind to see.
Bit of history. I've had the car 10 years and have had two new Selespeed Systems fitted. Each time best part of £2.5k. The first system failed after 18k, import no warranty, and the second failed after 32k.
The car has 97k on the clock and on Friday afternoon when I open the door the Selespeed pump didn't prime. Tried to turn the key and the Selespeed light flashed indicating a fault.
Anyway, long story cut short after checking that power was getting to the pump I tapped it a couple of times, locked the car and opening it again. On opening the door the pump primed and the car started. Indicating to me the pump is worn. Mostly likely the bushes getting jammed and not making proper connection with the stator. Only last week I had to replace the Window Wiper Motor for a similar reason.
So I took the car to the local independent Alfa dealer to look at fitting a replacement pump. Shock and horror he told me even with a second hand pump I was looking at the best part of £900. At which point I asked why and he mentioned several things such as once the pump is changed the system needs to be sent to an Alfa dealer to be calibrated.
Not willing to spend £900 on the car, the cars worth £1500 max, after just replacing the window wiper motor I decided to do some research and came across this great site.
So I would be very grateful if people could provide guideance.
Please can some one tell me where the OBDII connectors are. I believe there are two, one for the main engine ECU and one for the Selespeed ECU.
Examiner / Alfadiag
People talk about Examiner.
Is the software available or am I better off using Alfadiag?
Will I need the software if I change the pump?
When I configure Alfadiag which ECU version should I select for the Selespeed?
I assume I remove the pump from the passenger wheel arch. Is there anything I should be wary of? For Example which end of the hydraulic pipes to remove or spare seals I should buy before hand.
Any special tools?
Do I need to get the Selespeed system calibrated? I see no reason why the system should need calibrationing as the pump runs off a pressure sensor?
Can I use Castrol TQ DIII Syntheic ATF as the Tucela Selespeed oil seems hard to get.
If I was to service the pump does anyone know where can I get the brushed from?
Recommend Alfa Dealer
Anyone know of a decent Alfa Independent in the Sutton Coldfield area. Good independents seem hard to find as the last one didn't seem that convincing.
Thanks in advance,
