Buying a 147 with a blown headgasket
Hey guys, i'm very new here, hopefully you can help me.
basically i'm a 18, nearly 19 year old who drives and loves his classic mini however driving from Birmingham to Swansea to go to uni in is NOT practical and i have had my heart set on a 147 since i started driving.
i'm looking at buying a 2002 1.6 147 (105bhp) i've found with a blown head gasket, the plan was to buy it, change the head gasket, change the cam belt while i'm at it and get it back on the road then sell the mini (to pay for the huge insurance costs)
my main question is, how hard is the head gasket to change?
do i need any specialist tools?
what other problems may i find, for example could the big ends have failed if water has got into the oil?
i know a fair bit about engines as a whole having worked in an engine specialists for nearly a year where i stripped and re-built a performance engine for my mini. but i'm completely new to newer engines.
i know its risky buying a car that i can't drive so is there anything i could check without driving the car?
the engine has only done 62,000 miles so i think i could have a nice car on my hands.
Thanks for any replys.
