So my new wheels arrived this morning... very exciting.
But there have been a few minor dramas since the last update.
I first ordered the wheels from RS-Import
, and after not hearing anything from them for a week, was told that new stock was not arriving until Jan 10. I didnt like this idea, so cancelled the order, and received a Paypal refund.
I then ordered a set from Italian eBay, through nanomalefico87
. They had a good price, except on shipping. They wanted 330 euro to send to UK, which of course I didn't know when ordering. So I cancelled that order, and got (another) Paypal refund.
Then finally ordered a set through Italian eBay again, this time stefano_nn1
. Had a decent price (£650 delivered), was very communicative, and all was going well.
But... because I have made a few purchases through Paypal recently that equal more than their yearly threshold (and they include the refunded purchases in this too), they decided I would have to have my account verified (+1 week), and then it would be sent as an eCheque (+2 weeks). Since the money cleared, I think they took about 5 working days to arrive.
I also ordered some tyres from Camskill
a couple of weeks ago. They are 225/40R18. I had these fitted and balanced at my friendly local tyre fitter.
Here are some pics of the wheels:
Sorry for the quality of these images. I live in the UK, and took them with my iphone. Bad combo.
So the point of getting these wheels was to fix the vibrations from the old buckled wheels. Unfortunately I have not exactly solved the problem. The car still has a vibration, and although the other wheels are quite out of shape, I think I have driveshaft issues, as discussed in this thread
But am I pleased with the wheels? Of course. They are supplied to Italian dealers by an Italian company, but are actually made in China (had a removeable PRC sticker on them. They look absolutely fantastic, and could not fault them in any way. They came with a full set of wheel studs and some new centre caps too. There is minimal clearance at the front, about 5mmm between the tyre and the strut, but that's not really a problem.
Will keep you posted on how I find them.
