Idea MAF affected by air filter?

Just curious, to me would make sense that if the air getting to the MAF is choked (by a knackered filter) could this also cause people to mis-diagnose MAF issues?

Just bought and installed one of these (found it in the tuning thread) Buy Universal Air/Induction Performance Filter. at - Your Online Shop for . and straight away she flew off the mark - not the usual spluttering/stuttering...

I guess proof will be when I get up in the morning and drive to work, but would a shafted Air Filter cause problems with the MAF?

(Oh and yes - it actually sounds really good! )
