Well, the day I'll have enough cash to get the work done I want! roll on remortgage!
So my Alfa, just over 1 year on from owning her and I'm still very much in love
I bought her (2001 156 1.8TS) 2nd hand mid 2008 for £2,400, seems was an ex-lease car at some point in it's life (upto about 40-50k) however don't have much service history since then so have obvious concerns about age of cam belts etc etc etc (none of the later ones show anything major being done (a good/worrying thing???))
From my months on these forums, I think these these are the main issues:
! Pretty certain has MAF issue as well due to very bad cold starts in the morning (will stall without some careful & slow acceleration, fine after 5 mins) but chokes/pops if you over do it (yes I've made 100 posts on this issue I know!
and you're probably crying that I've left it this long!
although, heard symptons can be related to.....
? Sailed through it's last 2 MOT's fine, no issues with emissions so guess Lambda is fine?
! Sounds too much like a diesel when cold for my liking! not so bad once warmed up?
, sits around the 50 mark on motorways/city driving, however raises quickly to 90/just over when sat idle in queues/drive throughs!
^ has a knock on effect of causing a chirping sound which I can only assume is caused by the fans working harder to cool the engine? Turning on the fans inside the car to full blast seems to lower the temp?
(somewhere!) I think it's from front drivers side, click/clack sound when breaking sometimes (regardless of how hard you break, there's a certain point where I think the break must be far enough engaged to cause it to *CLICK* loudly... however front breaks show no extra wear etc (in fact I had the rear's done about a year ago and they're starting to squeek already!!!!
- is the aircon meant to *CLICK* loudly from the engine bay when you turn it on/off and also cause the revs to drop very slightly? has always worked perfectly, gets pretty chilly!
Rear windows borked
, again posted on before, new cables/motors possible, or just come off runners...
Well, I'm sure most of you have had every single one of these issues at some point, and to me these (mostly) seem like fairly minor things that need sorting (soon now that I will have the cash to blitz it!) obviously cams etc I appreciate the more serious consequences of not maintaining!
Whilst I went to see some gorgeous new Alfa's on the weekend (lining up a 159 or GT in the new year) I want to keep my 156 for sentimental reasons, guess really need to get it on the diagnostics and see what's what (or what's gonna cost! lol)
However, one things for sure, I will only ever own an Alfa from here on
