Alfa 156 2.0 JTS Sportwagon 2005 Model - Speedo & Petrol Gauge Intermittent Fault

Posted this in the wrong section last week

My car has developed an intermittent electrical fault where the following simultaneously stop working:

(1) Speedometer, milometer and odometer.
(2) Petrol gauge.
(3) Computer display on top of the dashboard.
(4) All clock back lighting.
(5) Clock warning lights.

When the fault clears all clock warning lights illuminate for a few seconds (as they do at start up when the key is inserted) and then extinguish. At this point everything returns to normal until the fault repeats.

I am assuming this fault is caused by a poor electrical contact. If it is, can anyone with experience give me some pointers as to which connections I should check? Could this be a fault with a specific component?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

..... For the benefit of others I have now cured the problem by remaking the contacts at the plugs on the rear of the speedo. This was incredibly easy, only took 15 minutes and involved removing three cross-head screws to withdraw the Speedo and gain access to the electrical plugs.
