Almost stalls on start & flat spot

Hi all,

First thread from a newbie, thanks for all of the tips I've read in the past.

My 147 2.0 TS has developed a problem on starting, starts fine then revs drop to under 500. Normally, the engine kicks in and it runs ok. Only once has the car stalled at which point the selespeed system failure message came up, but I re-started it and it ran fine.

I've also noticed a flat spot that only appears intermittently, mostly when cold and in second between 2800 and 3000.

I've read a couple of threads on here which seem to point to the MAF. How much to replace? Any tips for good garages in Hertfordshire/N London.

About 100 genuine Alfa or pattern 25 on ebay but I do not think people recommend them, you have ProAlfa in watford or Veloces East Barnet.

Mine has this same problem only it actually does stall everytime unless i catch it with the throttle.

I have decided to replace the battery to fix this. The reason that i believe the problem is the battery is because my 145 did the same thing when i replaced the battery with one that wasn't powerful enough. My alarm also went off and couldn't be disarmed which i believe can be caused by a voltage drop (tamper alarm perhaps).

New battery going in on wednesday so i will advise if that fixes it. I have already replaced my MAF which made no difference to this specific issue.
