Power steering pipework
I don't know if this has been discussed here before, but some of our cars are getting to an age where unusual corrosion issues are occuring.
As a result of a minor prang last week, I have had to remove the front bumper and wheelarch liners from my car this week. I have been noticing a few drops of oil on the drive for a while but it got a lot worse following the bang.
With the bumper off I can see that it is coming from the aluminium power steering pipes where they are held by a black plastic clamp on the nearside of the front crossmember. Both pipes have corroded where they are held by the plastic and the front one has a pinhole where the fluid is coming out.
A couple of months ago I had to replace one of the air-con pipes where it had corroded by the front bulkhead and started to leak.
Is this a sign of things to come?
Luckily the replacement pipes aren't prohibitively expensive - £49 + VAT for the pair in this case.
