I currently have a 1999 GTV V6 and although I love the car, it is my only car and I am starting to find that i need slightly more boot space and the ability to take people places.
Therefore I may sell the GTV and buy a 147 instead, however I am looking to keep some cash back from the GTV sale, so want to spend max £2000 ish. I would like a diesel for the economy, but know thats not realistic.
Is the 1.6 allot more efficient than the 2.0? also what about belts etc? i know the 2.0 likes to eat belts, is the 1.6 the same?
Sorry for all the simple newbie questions!
Fuel consumption will be almost the same, no sense to go for 1,6 just expecting better economy because the differences are small.
Belt job on 1,6 is cheaper as it doesnt have ballancer shafts = one belt less. But the camblet and auxbelt with all tensioners are the same and if you are really on the budget you can not install ballancer belt at all without harm and get more free reving and responsive engine :-)
If you dont find a cheap 1,6 in excelent condition, I would recomend you looking for 2,0. You will be more happy with it and runing and servicing costs are the same. Not considering insurance.
