156 Alternator & Frozen Brakes?
Sorry for the long post but I have a couple of issues with the 156 to add to my ever expanding list for investigation this weekend!! Symptoms described below.......
1. All lights in the car are flickering. It is more noticeable at idle but is there all the time. It seems to speed up as revs increase but it is still there and is a bit sore on the eyes when driving on unlit roads not to mention unsafe! I tested voltage across alternator and it seems fine. Battery is showing green light too so is charging ok. I did notice this morning though that the idle seems to almost tick over in time with the flicker.....also when I put the heated rear window on the flicker seems to go away? Any ideas....?
2. I got caught out in the rain up here last week and on my way home (to my flooded house :-( I drove through a lot of standing water. Now this morning I was away early and we had a chilly night ( minus 2). When I released the handbrake the lever came off ok but was free to move up and down and the brake was still on. It released after about 500 yards or so and the lever now feels as it should....is it spossible to have got water into the system which has now frozen? The footbrake seems fine? I have not yet done the rears on this car so am not sure how the handbrake operates so any advice would be most useful.
