Mine (2.4 20V) now sits a bit above 70 on my 20-minute drive from home to work. The conditions are the following: pretty low traffic (total distance is less than 15 km), a bit coldish here (haven't seen more than 5 C for two weeks now), 15" winter tires; the thermostat and the coolant were replaced two months ago.
The only time it goes around 80C is when pushing the car really hard up a hill. The indie who's servicing it says the thermostat and the sensor are OK, but the gauge is wrong. Could this be the cause for which I'm only getting around 35 mpg in long runs and 29 mpg on my daily commute?
