Engine Conversion Problems - 156 into 147
Hi, my alfa 147 1.6 had a head gasket failure, after changing the headgasket about a week later it was taken to get the engine steam cleaned......... on the way back from this the car died, the first assumption was that the ecu or some sensors/electrical things may have been damaged by the water, with the engine left to dry it then ran but was missing badly, turns out that cylinder 1 has snapped a con-rod. At the time a 156 selespeed was offerd for a very good price so we took that in the hope that the 1.8 from it would work in the 147. (the 147 is an 2002, and 156 a 1998-99)
The 1.8 engine was fitted with the 147 g/box, fly, clutch etc, also the aircon unit was removed and the 1.6 exhaust manifold and oil cooling pipes fitted. Currently the engine is sat in the 147, with the 147 G/box, clutch etc, and the 156 engine loom & contol module.
The engine runs with the 147 control module (this wasnt expected) HOWEVER it dies when the throttle is lifted, basically it wont idle.
The engine dosent run with the 156 control module (as expected) because of the imobiliser and key mis-match. Obviously we want the engine to run with the 156 module, (which is the correct one.) but the problem we have is that we cant just switch the ICU from the 156 to the 147 as the 147 dosent have a seperate ICU unit (its encoporated into another module.)
SO..... can anybody shine a light on this or has anybody done this swap before?
