This may or may not be relevant - but my new (to me) 156 SW had a front shock changed under an extended dealer warranty, by the previous owner, because it caused a creaking noise.
They had changed everything else and the creak was still present so they tried replacing the shock and it disappeared.
Don't know why a shock would groan or creak - bb race dying? Maybe they replace a fubar'd top bush at the same time? (comes with one?)
I am now getting a creak from the front and one from the back so i have a large number of suspect (top + btm wishies, rear arms, ARB bushes, shocks...).
I've got the self-leveling type rear shocks (all SW have these?) so i hate to think what they would cost to replace from Alfa (that's when the lowering sports kit would look appealing).
Just an idea...
