Thermostat/Water Pump on a 156 1.6

Hi (second post and another problem lol)

I "think" I have a faulty thermostat or worse a goosed water pump.

The temperature guage doesn't show that the engine is heating up from cold even if driven on a clear road at normal speeds. It will soar in traffic to sometimes the point the red warning light ignites, a rev of the engine brings this down though.

What am I looking at? The 'stat stuck open? Or the pump not circulating water?

I love the car hate the foibles lol

.............probably the thermostat, fan and/ or the radiator that`s the problem instead of the waterpump
