I've done a really bad thing, I've let the missus drive the GT while I've been away in France on business
, and in doing she encountered a clutch problem that I was wondering if anyone can help in diagnosing.
On pressing the clutch pedal and releasing she's reported the pedal stays down for a couple of seconds before returning to the normal 'up' position. During this time, no gears can be selected - as if the clutch isn't being engaged at all. (yes I’ve confirmed the engine is running and no, the clutch pedal isn't sticking on the mats
The RAC were called out who suspect the seals in the slave cylinder may be compromised and there are no visual signs of leaks of fluid inside or outside the car and they confirm that the 'common' fault of the retaining pin breaking - has not occurred.
Note, I have read many posting on this site relating to clutch problems but none seem similar to the experience with my car.
Luckily this failure has occurred on my drive so the car is safe and sound.
I have 1 more month before my return home, enough time me thinks to collate all the advice I am hoping you guys can offer!
I also have an Alfa Romeo dealer about a 5 minute drive from me in Bordeaux so I can always talk to them.
Thanks in advance.
