Cigarette Lighter - is it a standard size?

Hi - has anyone else had trouble plugging in their Sat Nav, car vacuum, etc into the Alfa 147 cig lighter socket? I was fine with my FOrd Galaxy but Tom Tom seems to not like the socket on the 147. Unless of course the socket isn't working. Presumably I can push down teh button and it will pop up evenutally with a glowing ember for fag lighting?

Any suggestions welcome - otherwise it's back to maps and navigators!

I've had no problems with my 147 - stuff that worked in other cars works just as well, although I do suspect that compared with some of my previous cars the plugs are a looser fit in the socket.

The plug on the air compressor I carry around doesn't fit too well in my GT, nor did it in the 156 I had previously.

US-style cig sockets are slightly narrower i believe. so many products are designed for their market.

some electrical products (can't remember with TomTom) come with thin plastic 'sleeves' to slip over the cig plug to make them 'fatter' for sockets like Alfa's/Euro cars.

A small elastic band around the plug is ideal for holding it in tightly, the problem is the 2 alternaviv diameters and as stated, most plugs are for the US market, it's the difference between the imp and metric sizing, the metric being a minisule bit larger.
