Oil filter change 156 2.4 JTD 20V

Hi folks,
A user here mentioned that to be able to change the oil filter in 20V diesel engine, the front pipe must be first taken off. Does anyone know if there is a shim between the flanges, and if there is, must it be replaced?

I know its an old thread but for the record the exhaust needs to be dropped if the "old" oil filter is bigger than original spec.Plenty of aftermarket suppliers sell the filter at a different size thus it wont come out of the available gap!!
