156 2.0 JTS cooling fan issue
Ok, after much reading and fiddling in the cold I have decided to add a post to the growing number of cooling related posts, and being new to the Alfa scene the best way to learn the car is to ask those who have played with them for a few years.
I'm having issues with the temp of my 2002 156 JTS, the temp seems to climb above 90 and onto the next (110) mark without the cooling fan coming on (when in traffic). Start driving again an the temp starts to come back down and hover around the 90 mark.
Now I have checked the relays (Un-plug / clean / tap), I've checked the resistor (measures 0.3 ohms, and looks ok), the fan runs when the air-conditioning is on, so I know the thing spins, and just to double check, I've metered all the fuses (not having a JTS handbook but a TS hand book is not the best reference!).
Now I have read that there is a sensor I can un-plug to see if the fan kicks off when you start the engine, is this the wire that plugs into the top of the stat housing (assuming that the stat housing sits on the right of the engine (looking from the front) just under the cover) in to what looks like a temp sender.
Now this plug I can't seem to get off (retained by a yellow clippy thing), is there a special way to get it off, I can remove the yellow retainer but not the actual plug! I don't want to pull it to hard at the plug because I may end up snapping the plastic, or pulling the wires from the housing!!!
Any help would be appreciated.
