The motor control system has stored a code, which you need someone to read for you. My Alfa specialist does it free, so does the AA (if you're a member). It should say what's wrong.
One thing worth checking: when you remove the radiator cap, does it hiss as the pressure is released? I had it on my JTS... the gasket was leaking and allowing exhaust gases to pressurise the coolant. Panic not, it's very unlikely, but it's worth checking because if it is happening then the coolant looks to be at the right level until you remove the cap, but it's actually propped up by bubbles.
If your engine was wrecked (e.g. low oil pressure) the MCS should have told you on the dash. It did on mine (boo hoo).
Hope yours is something trivial like a dodgy sensor, or a fading battery, which can trigger odd messages.
