Throttle problems with Alfa 156 2.0 JTS
OK - Bear with me - i'm a girl, so i'll do my best car speak, but i probably wont use the right words - i'm guessing though that there'll be a few people who'll understand what i mean!!!
We have a warning that there is a Motor Control System Failure - we've had it diagnosed as something to do with the throttle body. I dont know the fault code though! My mechanic wasnt keen to go ahead and replace the throttle body, as being an Alfa, it could be something related to it, but not actually a defective throttle body. He cleaned up some wires and sensors, reset the computer and we were good for a few days, but ended up going back and replacing the throttle body. This hasnt rectified the problem. Symptoms that we're having are that the car isnt accelerating with anywhere near the power it should be (my Yaris is pulling away faster at the mo!!) This has been the most prevalent problem from the day the light came on - but now - over the last week - it's actually struggling when accelerating or just driving at a constant speed - it's as though the revs are jumping up and down! When sat at traffic lights, the revs are screaming at 2000!! (And i dont have my foot on the pedal!) There also seems to be a bit of a whistle from the engine and it's running hotter than normal! My husband knows his way around an engine and has read simillar stories on here, but there seems to be a fair few potential problem parts, and not having the tools (or funds) to replace them all one by one until we resolve the issue, we're stuck about what to do!! Suggestions welcome!
