Got my 2.4 20V JTD Sportwagon for about 6500 EUR (m.y. 10/2003, 142.000 km on the clock, two previous owners, first being an Alfa dealership in Germany which only used the car for 30k km in 2.5 years). Since getting it, I spent about 1200 EUR fixing various bits and bobs (xenons costed about 150 EUR to put right, then replaced thermostat - 100 EUR, front wishbones 500 EUR, aux belt idlers 80 EUR, parking sensors & airbag light 20 EUR, plus filters & fluids & labor for the rest). Now everything is pretty much running, except for the damn temperature gauge, which always indicates 70 something Celsius - oh well, I think I'll just let it be, I'm used to that since my previous Lancia.
All in all, the car's costed me around 7700 EUR so far and it looks like no maintenance is in plan for the next year or so, normal stuff (oil, filters) aside. Guess what, for that money, I couldn't have gotten any comparable deal with a supposedly "working" (i.e. no apparent faults) car on the market - be it Skoda Octavia / old Superb, Audi A4, VW Passat etc. Catastrophic failures aside (timing belt & water pump done 25k km ago by the previous owner), I suppose we'll have a happy marriage for the coming few years.
