Idea Camshaft Variator Needs Change

Hello Alfa Lovers,

My 156 1.6 TSPARK which has 125.000kms on road makes a knocking sound for 2 seconds while a cold start.

I have read many threads on the net and ppl says that it needs a change however it will not be damaging the whole engine if it stays that way.

But the Alfa services here demands like 700 Pounds for a change. I checked prices for the part and its like 100 pounds. Do you have any advice about this issue ?

And another question is that when the car is idling there is a little shudder in the car. Is my MAF broken? or should i de-cone the air filter box?

thanks in advance.

my best
