Cam lobes worn again?!!!!
Hello fellow Alfisti
I recently rebuilt my 1.6 TS engine as it was using loads of oil and ran poorly. I found that the piston rings werent put on the right way, two of the pistons were shot, intake cam was worn, sparkplugs were wet and piston sleeve was damaged. After an expensive repair, replacing sparkplugs, bearings, pistons, rings, camshaft, belts, tensioners, pulleys, resleeving piston sleeve etc. the car was back on the road again. Though a bit noisy, i figured the oil must still make its way to all the dry parts of the engine, as it was sparkling clean inside.
The slight diesel noise has now turned into a constant loud clatter. I suspected it had to be hydraulic lifters, so i opened the engine again and found that the intake cam (no1 lobe) was worn again and the hydraulic lifter were fine.
Can anyone please explain to me why this car is eating the cam lobes in a matter of 1/2 months? I regularly check the oil level. The variator is a bit worn, but def not the reason for the clatter.
Any help would be appreciated.
