I'm going to pull the engine and see how bad it is. One way or the other I'm going to have to take it out. I may as well break it down and see how bad it is. From there I can get pricing and see what the costs are.
The other thing is that cars are very much more expensive here, even the wrecks are.
Current going rate for a 2001 147 2.0ts is +- R 60,000.00 to R70,000.00. I'm planning to do most of the rebuild for under R10,000.00 but If it gets up round R 20,000.00 then picking up a whole wreck becomes a option.
You got my feelings down. I did the replacement engine with the wife's car. It hasn't really worked out too well. I had to just about rebuild the "New" engine before I could put it in. It still smokes and Leaks oil worse than an Alfa and it’s a VW. Plus the crap of getting the engine number changed with the traffic department. If you get caught in a road block with an incorrect engine number according to the licence disk, there are stories of guys getting locked in jail for a few days. Then the car gets impounded and there won't be anything left of an Alfa after 2 days there.
