I've looked at the Mondeo TDCI but put off by my mates trouble with his, diesel lift pump £400.00, clutch and flywheel £800.00, turbo £500, plus electrical gremlins putting the car into a safe mode limiting speed to somthing like 10mph all on a sub 100k 2006 car.
We had a v6 4wd Jag in at work needing suspension, the front top mounts had the Ford oval stamped in it so we sourced the same part number from Ford (in stock) rather than Jag (4 days delivery) and saved £28.00. I think the two cars are closer related than Jag would want though still tempted by one, you can get a decent 156 for your £1200.
Modern Mondeo's are supposed to be less reliable than the older one's, or so I read somewhere,
I have an original 1994 Mondeo Ghia 2 Litre Petrol that's been in the family since new, it's got 45,000 miles on the clock and still runs like a dream some 15 years later.
BUT, they are merely work horses, as much as I enjoy ranting mine around, a Mondeo is not an Alfa in any way. They are good, honest, reliable motoring, but not much more...
In the 5 years I've owned the Mondy though nothing has gone wrong. I mean literally nothing. Apart from an exhaust rubber once perished so the exhaust hung down a bit. But 5 new rubbers later (Oooer missus!!!) and all was well again.
Good cars if you don't want to be a proper driver.
(That's a sorry statement but very true)
