(Possible Future) Gear Problems on Selespeed
Have had my 2001 156 Selespeed since Dec 2006 and have enjoyed hassle free driving - always in City mode from day 1.
Only scare I had was in Feb 08 when the symbol that is on the selesepeed fluid resevoir lit up on the dashboard and the gears were manual only, and gears 1 and 2 only. I topped up with Tutela CS oil, got it towed by AA to WAD in Wolverhampton and gave them the AA codes for the potentiometer. WAD couldn;t really find anything but cleaned a couple of sensors, put in on the PC and re-set codes and it's been fine since.
Last week after a drive back from London to Birmingham, as I switched off the car, the gear display flashed Gears 1 and 3 quickly, and the same as I tried to switch it on.
Anyway the next couple of days the car was fine. On Sunday having driven somwhere and returning to the car after abt 3 hours, Gear N was flashing and I could not start the car. (didn't try in manual tho'). A couple of frined who were with me gently pushed /rocke the car whils at flashing N and with handbrake off, and when I started it started and has been fine everday since. I have topped up with the Tutela oil as well, and the door pump sounds.
I'd rather have a health check on this now, than be stuck at a roundabout in morning rush hour on a Monday sometime as other collaegues have experienced.
Who would be great at giving this a passionate look, as opposed to a by the manual approach which may or may not cover the issues. Any services in between I have got done at National auto centres even inc the cambelt change.
I hear Smaky mentioned as a reference by other members, is he part of an outfit or a lone crusader against Selespeed gear box mishaps? Is it worth going to WAD again, where at present there is no demonstrable problem?
