Bit of history:
A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to move to South West France. Quite frankly it's bloody lovely here but there are some things the French really don't do very well: loft insulation (it's really cold here in the winter) tradesmen (they NEVER return your calls) and cars (French clutter).
I started off using my old UK to plod about in, but I didn't much care for it when I was in UK and it was even worse in France with the steering wheel on the right hand side, so I wanted a LHD replacement.
I wanted something sexy, fun, bit different and DIESEL. Petrol is really expensive in France, but Diesel is less than a euro/litre.
I hadn't intended to buy an Alfa, but I have never owned one and this one came up for sale- in this pic it is still on it's Italian transport plates.
It's a 1999 2.4 JTD 10V, it's fitted with a subtle body kit and deep bumpers, lovely primer grey alloys, eibach springs, black leather, climate.... oh love at first sight.
It's achingly beautiful, I particularly adore the pleated door cards, sitting in my first Alfa is a special experience.
After buying it I took it to my friendly garage in UK and stuck it on the diagnostic machine. Oh God- is everything they say about Alfas true?
After replacing an ABS sensor, engine mount, front wishbones, cam cover gasket, cambelt, tensioner and water pump it was ready to take to my house in France.
A few days later it passed it's Controle Technique (French MOT) and the last year has been a joy. I've only done 7000kms, but it's always special. And it's not a Peugeot.
Then suddenly it's started doing odd things, and as it didn't come with an owners manual I need help!
1. We've been lucky- we had a summer here. On the first day the temperature reached 30degs, the climate control packed up. I had it regassed, it still doesn't work, the local garage tells me the system is fine the problem is electronic. The A/C light comes on everytime I switch on the engine (default setting appears to be ON) but the compressor is not working. Any ideas?
2. Yesterday during a spirited drive chasing some French clutter I suddenly lost power, reducing the throttle angle helped and it picked up again. It felt like the car was overboosting. Concurrently a little read symbol appeared, looked like an injector squirting fluid. What does that mean?
3. The yellow passenger airbag warning light has started flickering everytime I turn left! Is this normal?
4. Finally- does anybody know what those wheels are? They are bloody lovely, and very light, be interested to find out more about them.
Lots of questions from a new boy, appreciate your thoughts people!
