Hi all, i've been reading through your posts on the subject for the last few days but for some reason, I have problems still...
I am running an alfa 156 2.4jtd lusso, 2003 (03 plate) with 110k on it
On saturday, i was driving as usual had just come round a very sharp corner on a narrow street at about 8-10 mph with my ASR on and everything working fine until there was a grinding sound from my rear left wheel (ABS system kicking in for no reason as we were driving very sedately on dry roads) and then the ASR warning came up on the speedo, and the trip display flashed EBD system failure, go to dealer...
Anyway I was stopping and starting all morning as I called in at 5-6 friends plus shops etc. Each time i started up, everything fine, no warnings, then within 10-15 yards of movement the ASR/EBD warning came on ASR shut down. One of the times the front left wheel did its grinding braking thing like the back left had the first time.
The warning flashed up a while ago (no braking though) but went away on its own after restarting.
So I got home monday night and had a look. With the car parked, handbrake on, engine running, it will sit all day, no warnings. Driving up and down drive trying not to move wheel at all 9/10 times doesnt bring on warning. However sitting with engine on, handbrake on, then moving wheel to left full lock brought up warning. it seems ok anything from 1/2 turn from full lock left all the way to full lock right.
So i think... "must be clockspring, or front wheel sensor cable problem..." so i removed steering column cowl, checked connection, when removed, message comes up, when plugged in, all hunky dory... So I removed front wheels, checked cables for visible damage, and tried to disconnect the right front wheel sensor. I didnt realise connection was under bonnet so i removed the little bolt, used plenty of wd40 and tried to remove sensor from hub using a pair of pliers and a gentle wiggle...well there was a very slight cracking sound like something broke.
So I started car (no warnings) and engaged 2nd to get the hubs turning, after a little while the ASR and (never happened before) ABS lights came on. So i put the bolt back in sensor (as this where it earths through). However now all i get is ASR/ABS all the time, every time the iginition is put on.
So after all this I'm thinking i've probably knackered the sensor, and still don't know which of the 3 is was causing the fault at the beginning... (i've ruled out the two rear sensors and yaw sensors as it does it when these arent even moving)
I then downloaded unidiag to tell me whats up. I have:
OBD II to usb cable
Laptop with windows vista and KWP71, and KWP2000 downloaded to it
Bridged pins 3 and 7 as directed on another thread
However it wont work, the laptop flashes up "External Exception EEFFACE" when i hit connect, despite following the instructions in "SEARs" thread. It shows that same error whether cable plugged in to car or not.
What do i need to do to run software?
Have i killed that sensor?
Whats my problem with the ASR?
sorry for such a long post, i'm desperate...
