Strange smoke

Hi all,

Have a 1.8 156, and trying to figure out what's going on. I've had it for about 6 months and it's always been quite thirsty with oil. A couple of months ago it burnt a valve out, so took the plunge and had the head re-ported, 4 new valves etc. I was hoping that would solve the oil issue also, but i was wrong!

The car has 57k on it, and is going though about 1/2 a litre a week (driving it quite a bit at the moment). There are no leaks that i can detect, nor do I see any smoke out the exhaust (though it I give it a LOT of welly, i have noticed a puff).

Now this week I've noticed twice when the oil got low, I got a plume of blue smoke from under the bonnet. This I find confusing, as where under the bonnet is it coming from?

Anyone have any thoughts? I was suspicious it could be the rings, but not sure why that would cause smoke under the bonnet as opposed to the exhaust.

Many thanks!

Could be the breather pipe that runs from behind the maf to just before throttle body, is your engine bay covered in an oily film ?, they do split

I would suspect the breather as mentioned to be blocked, the inlet manifold gasket, crank end seal or if it's mixing with the water, the oil cooler to be split, but what milage are you doing each week?

Alfas are termed 'Loose Engines', check out this months CM Mag, although it has been known for yonks? Loose engine? Bore to piston and ring clearance? Bound to ensure a regular supply of fresh oil to a 'Revvy' motor? Assuming it does get checked frequently and topped up that is?
