Apparent ABS Pump failure - reasonable price?
Since recharging my dad's 156 battery a couple of weeks ago the ABS light has been on at all times. Having done some research the most likely reason is that me and my dad didn't replace the fuse properly and this is why it's having issues. Either that or a faulty sensor, but the timing seems to suggest the fuse.
My dad took it to the garage anyway, and they are claiming the ABS pump has failed and needs to be replaced at a cost of - wait for it - £1700 + labour.
Looking on ebay used 156 ABS pumps typically go for < £100. It seems incredible to me that a garage would try and overcharge by that much...am I missing something here? Are they really that rare? The chief mechanic was actually quite reasonable and said if we brought him a pump ourselves he'd fit it for a much smaller fee so I get the feeling he's vaguely reasonable.
I'm getting the car back from the garage to check the fuses/connections myself as it seems most likely this is the issue, and if that fails I might try and get into the ABS ECU to check the error code. But in case it really is the pump, can anyone recommend somewhere to get a decent replacement and what kind of price?
Thanks in advance and safe driving...
