Diesel Smell on GT

I am new to this forum as a result of purchasing a 05-plate GT and have had no real problem so far, in fact the experience has been better than expected, however I have started to notice a slight smell of diesel in the cabin when the car is idiling?

Having come from a petrol car could this be just one of the 'joys' of owning a diesel or should I be more worried?

Has anyone experienced any similiar problem?

Hello and welcome to AO

Had my oil burner for just over a year now and haven't notice a smell inside the car tbh. Hope it's nothing serious

I would suspect that there is a split hose under the bonnet, if it's spraying a fine mist then it can get through the heater and cause you to smell it.

Your problem is you bought the wrong engine!

Kidding aside, it's not normal. It could be something silly like stepping in diesel on the forecourt and bringing it onto the matts, but it warrants an investigation. Is it affected by turning the air blower fan on or off? Is it the smell of raw diesel or burnt exhaust? Is it with the windows up or down?

Thanks for the replies, have identified it to be a fuel filter either leaking or incorrectly fitted, not great as it had a full service when it was purchased!!

Still at least it should be an easy fix??
