Balancer shaft belt failure
My wife's 156 JTS (52 plate 118k mileage) has suffered a balancer shaft drive belt failure. THis wouldn't be too bad but the belt got wrapped round the cambelt and caused the timing to go resulting in 8 bounced exhaust valves.
The resulting carnage is costing near £800 to put right (getting a variator fitted at the same time included in this). Whilst I think the price is OK I am a bit miffed that the belt went as the car has a full service history including a cam belt change at the last service 12000 miles ago.
My tech question is: can someone tell me if the balncer shaft drive belt has a service life, i.e. should it have been changed as part of a normal service. The belt is well worn so can only assume that it was taken off to fit the new camshaft belt and then refitted afterwards.
Thanks in advance blah blah....
