Help Right i've had enough!

BEEP Immobilizer
BEEP Engine Oil Pressure
BEEP Brake light

and of course my language, which has a lot of BEEPs in it.

If there is an immobilizer failure, why is the car running - in fact flying along - at 80 mph?

If there is an ABS failure WHY can I stop myself from ploughing into the wagon in front?

Engine oil pressure I wont comment on until I have had the thing checked out

Brake light? Go on have a guess. Is it out or isn't it???? Daughter says "no".

Now, is it possible that ALL of these things could be remedied by replacing the battery? I've WD40d every single connection I could reach and taken aim at some that I couldn't to rule out water, I've cursed, I've prayed; sadly I have little money left after buying her (as seen) in the first place, and would love to hear from anyone who might be able to say "simple"

Please help me. I am beginning to think about German cars, and that makes me feel a bit dirty.

Immo -Dont know -but consider rev counter issue
Brakes-test by skidding on wet grass-do you get a pulse in the pedal??
Oil pressure-check level -check leaks
Brake light--is it bulbs?or no power to unit-may be related to rev counter again.
Have battery load tested and replace if not ok
Also Alfadiag would be a good investment.
German cars are good-I came out of an A8 Audi at Christmas

I had a problem where the light filament had failed and then melted onto the sidelight making a wierd connection loop. All still worked but got the light on the dash. Worth a check. Imob, hey who cares. Oil pressure and ABS is worth having a concern over. Especially oil pressure!! Good luck!

I had an Issue with the Brake light warning.
Warning on but all lights working.....
changed the bulb and have no warning since it looked like the old bulb connectors were worn so not making a full connection.
Sorry cant help with the others though. Although sometimes these things happen once and when you go back to the car they are gone.

Thanks for all the responses people. I took her to KwikFit yesterday for a system diagnosis, which threw up a few errors, one particular one with a dealer code. So I asked the fitter where the nearest Alfa specialist was (never need one in 2 1/2 years of owning my 156) and he said "over there at the back of MacDonald's", just 60 seconds drive from my house. So over I went! He's fantastic! He only works on Alfas and Fiats, and is just rebuilding a GTA. He had her up on the lift, and let me go back to see her. He's taken every tiny part of her and either powder coated it or chromed it and is restoring her to original better-than-mint condition just for the showring.

"Eliza", my 147 will be going to him next Thursday for a full health check which includes EVERYTHING from system diagnostic to mechanical to structural, where he'll do a complete report for me with all the work that needs doing on her prioritised - from must to should to could. this will cost me a mere £45.00

This man LOVES Alfas, and he said he will get my girl running exactly as she should for me, or better.

I can't BELIEVE he is so close to my house. I feel loads better now, and I'm sure I'll stop swearing at her by next weekend!

Check your battery if you get loads of errors but can`t find them. Batteries on their way out tend to make that happen.

I had all of these errors, regularly and it turned out to be the MAF....!!!

Cleaned it out and no problems now, although will need replacing of course.

Maybe give that a try? there are plenty of threads here about how to do it..

Hope that helps?

OK, and the results are in.
this car should never have been given an MOT. the cylinder head has warped and had a temporary fix, the upper arms are SHOT to pieces, the wiring is in a dreadful state and could take days to put right. Needless to say I am about to go into injured party/car dealer battle, and I have also got myself a beautiful 156 2.4JTD lined up to replace it. Perfect. Back to the 156, I know where I am there.
