147 Silver Brake Calipers

Decided to paint my calipers and hubs, i went for silver as i wanted a subtle look to them. Im basically trying to make the car look as nice as possible without 'chavin it up'! Red calipers look good on a GTA but this is a 1.6 and everyone knows that cus it says it on the back! I used silver smooth hammerite paint from focus DIY, the big tin was 15.99 but used no where near that on all four calipers and hubs, should bought the 5.99 one! let us know what you think...

GTV Red.

Like the idea of painting the calipers. How did the Hammerite hold up to the punishment of being on alfa brakes? Would you recommend it?

I think that painting calipers red doesn't mean you are trying to pretend the car is something else.

I also think you should clean the paint off the contact areas of wheel and hub. These should be clean of anything.

Silver does look pretty good though. Subtle.

Will the paint job be destroyed when you have to change the pads?

Nice, I like the way the wheelbolts got painted too. The devil is in the detail.

Like Mitch166, I think the wheel should not have been painted. Alloy wheel cleaner should have got the inside surface clean enough not to need any paint. You would be surprised at how paint on the contact face can make several millimetres of difference at the rim, especially brushed-on paint.

I always paint new brake discs, but didn't have the chance to do the discs on my 156 since they were fitted just before I bought the car. I'm going to take them off, wire-brush them (on a pedestal grinder fitted with wire wheel), then spray with high-temp silver paint. I suppose I shouldn't paint the part where the wheel attaches, but I usually do.

The discs on my Punto turned out fine and are lasting well, and I even applied an 'OMP' sticker on the centre, where it can be seen through the spokes. Surprisingly that sticker has held up for almost a year now and still looks fine. I painted my calipers with gold paint, which (I think) is another good, unpretentious choice.
