Newbie assistance with First 156 Lusso

Hi all,

I really need some help with my first 156 purchase, always wanted an Alfa but because of their history I have been put off, but now I have seen one that looks good, it is time to drive something Red n Sexy!

The said vehicle is a 200 x 1.8 156 Lusso with 110k on the clock, it has had a good service history with Glyn Hopkins in herts and AMC in Chelmsford, last service was at 76k by AMC.

The dealer is checking what history is with the car between 76 - 100k which is probably by a local garage.

I will be looking at the car in the next few days but by what is on Autotrader it looks clean and has 12 months ticket on it.

When I look at it what do I need to be looking for inside and out?

Look forward to any help please

If the last service was at 76,000 (miles, presumably) then it is likely to be due a cambelt change. Get it done asap, or you'll be looking at a huge bill and a dead Alfa!

The tensioner and idler should be changed as well.

At 110K I'd get the water pump and variator done at the same time. The cambelts have to come off for these and they don't last forever. Better to add £100-£150 to the bill now than have to fork out £300+ in a few months.

The rad will probably need changing unless that was done recently and check the water temp isn't low ... it should go up to around the 90 marker and stay there. If it hangs around 70 on the motorway, the thermostat is stuck open.
