but want to be!!
Hi, I'm from London/Kent and have a hankering for a 147. I can only afford second hand, with a budget dependent on what I get if I sell my Punto. It's only 3 yrs old and I'm a low mileage driver so I reckon my budget could be in the region of £3000 max.
I have looked around a bit on autotrader and the type of examples likely to be available to me are between 5-7 years old, with 50-65k miles on the clock. Both 1.6 manual and 2.0 sele.
Obviously there's a bit of a reputation re: reliability (and my friends make the obligatory jokes to go with it), but I'm wondering if you nice folk can tell me what I should be looking for, if there's a point at which things generally begin to go wrong, whether the selespeed system is worth its salt etc etc and any general buying advice!
I really want to do this, but it's a big risk selling a young, low mileage dependable car to replace it with an older, higher mileage model with added risks attached - I want to enjoy the car for as long as I have it and not be put off Alfa ownership by accidentally picking up a lemon!
Any advice greatly appreciated - ta!
(ps started this already in the newbie area but the nice peeps there suggested I repost here
