I'm getting worried about my JTD 2.4 20v.
Temperature needle sits slightly above 70C, I run with my A/C on. When the engine is under load (i.e. going up a steep hill at 100-120 km/h), the needle rises visibly to about 90C, then the fan kicks in and prevents it from going further. Additionally, when pulling over after such a run (with A/C still running), the fan keeps coming on/off every few seconds.
1. Is this behaviour normal? I suspect not, but would like to have a confirmation from the more knowledgeable people.
2. If the above is abnormal, what should be checked / replaced?
The coolant is rather old (car's been sitting for nearly a year in the dealer's parking, but the coolant level is steady between MIN and MAX, no obvious losses and still pinkish, no signs of oil contamination), thermostat wasn't probably ever changed (car has about 142.000 km and seems to be running fine apart from various niggles). I had nearly identical symptoms on my Lancia 2.0 20v, except that the fan would only cut in at 105C or so.
