147 2.0 Idle Noise

Hello all

I've got a 2002 147 2.0 Twinspark that's developed a tapping noise when idle. This noise goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed and I haven't noticed it at all when driving along. Any ideas what it could be? I replaced the auxillary belt and the auxillary idler about 2 months ago and the noise developed shortly afterwards - any connection?

The car had a refurbed engine fitted around a year ago because of the big end going on the old one, and has had the cambelt replaced and was serviced by an alfa specialist earlier this year. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks guys.

Had the same thing on both 156 taxis a rattling noise that goes away when clutch is pressed, turned out on both occasions to be the master cylinder inside the gearbox. Turned out to be an easy fix , hope this helps. Steve
