Auxillary Belt Tensioners - Nightmare !!!
One of the tensioners is making an awful grinding noise when I am driving, but only seems to occur when the car is under load, for example, 40mph in 6th gear.
I am 99.99% sure this is the problem, I had a quick look today, although as the noise only occurs when driving, it is completely impossible to trace where the noise is coming from when the car is idling. I have also noticed that the noise completely dissapears when driving in the wet, which makes me think that a bearing has gone somewhere.
I don't really want to buy a 3 piece tensioner kit and belt, only to find that one of them needs replacing, although is there one particular tensioner that tends to fail on the V6? Also is it possible to remove the tensioners to repack the bearings with some grease - just as a test before replacement?
