Knocking when cold / interior panels

Two things I discovered today:

- My 2.4 JTD SW has a strange knocking sound, particularly present when cold. The sound seems to go away when the engine warms up and sounds like a suspension knock (not engine) when going over bumps. Any idea what part of the suspension could be influenced so much by the heat to stop knocking? At first, I tended to blame the engine tray, which is visibly loose, but stopping knocking when warm? I'm thinking it could be one of the engine mounts or the rubber shock absorbers between the engine and the chassis (if any - sorry, I don't know the English term for those) or similar.

- Do you guys have some sort of plastic panel in the drivers footwell (right under the steering wheel column? I don't, so I can see all the wiring, pedal ends and such. Any idea how much a spare one would be? My car is LHD, if it makes any difference.
