Myself and the gf decided that we really needed a sensible car (we have a Lotus Elise and a Fiat 500, neither of which are entirely practical
), so as I've always liked the look of the 156, decided I needed a diesel Alfa in my life.
Beer and ebay has got me a 51 plate 156 2.4 JTD, with a lot of motorway miles (158k
), full leather (mint interior apart from gearknob wear), sunroof, air con (well it would if it worked), 16" teledials etc, newish clutch, new tyres, new exhaust, newish disks and pads and service history.
So now the list of what needs doing
Full service (air, oil, fuel, cabin filters and oil) - last serviced at 138k
Cam belt and tensioner (last done at 98k)
It squeals like a pig on startup from cold, and there's a constant chirping - looks like it needs a new aux belt and tensioner (aux belt is rather slack)
Oil leak - seller told me it bottomed out on a pothole, and there is a hairline crack in the sump
Only manages to get up to 60 - 65 degrees, so looks like a thermostat is needed
Air con apparently has a fractured pipe so is empty and doesn't work
Both rear (electric) windows don't work
Remote central locking doesn't work
Drivers window switch broken, so drivers window has been wired to the rear passenger switch (you'll remember the rear window doesn't work...)
Both front fogs smashed
Patch of "chrome" lifted off the front grill
Can't think of anything else at the moment
But yes it was cheap!
